Northwestern ran all over Southwestern Saturday night as the Red Raiders opened the season with a 47-13 victory at Winfield, Kan. The Red Raiders totaled 365 rushing yards in the victory.
The Red Raiders started the scoring 3:20 into the game when Brandon Smith carried the ball in from 29 yards out. Smith scored again 2:11 later when he plunged in on a five-yard touchdown. Continue reading »

The final score makes it look worse than it was, but Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley was able to distance itself from Central Lyon/George-Little Rock late Friday night in a 27-13 victory in Rock Valley. The win was capped with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kyle Jensen, whose father died earlier in the week.

The Trinity Christian high school volleyball team stayed perfect Friday night with a 3-0 sweep at home against Mountain Lake Christian. Trinity improved to 5-0 overall.
Game one went Trinity’s way 25-13. Trinity took the next two sets 25-15 and 25-10 to seal the victory.

Trinity Christian picked up another volleyball win Thursday night as Ruthven-Ayrshire fell victim 25-8, 25-15 and 25-9. Brandi Oostra handed out 14 assists, Karina Heynen hammered eight kills and Trinity improved to 4-0 overall.

Unity Christian narrowly defeated Spirit Lake Tuesday night as the Indians hosted a boys’ cross-country meet. The Knights won the meet with 70 points while Spirit Lake had 74. MOC-Floyd Valley was fourth with 90 points while Western Christian finished sixth at 159.
“This was a good meet to see some strong teams,” said Unity coach Karl Kaemingk. “Spencer, MOC-Floyd Valley, Storm Lake and Spirit Lake are all tough and it was fun seeing how the race developed.” Continue reading »
